The quality requirements of the West German Prostate Center (WPZ) are subject to the international guidelines of the European and American professional societies. The permanent control of these qualities is essentially guaranteed by three pillars in addition to the permanent control by the certified quality management system:

Consistency and permanent training of the treatment team:

The team consists of specialized physicians from urology, radiotherapy and anesthesiology and expert staff from medical physics and nursing personnel.
The indication for therapy is determined jointly by urologists and radiotherapists. Here, interdisciplinary individual case discussions and the use of international nomograms are of particular importance. The quality is additionally controlled in weekly interdisciplinary colloquia.
There is international agreement that, for example, to gain and maintain sufficient experience in brachytherapy, at least 50, preferably 60-80 implantations per year should be performed by the same team. The WPZ team has performed more than 8500 brachytherapies in the last 20 years.
The team regularly participates in continuing education and organizes, among other events for colleagues and patients, regular prostate up-date meetings, where national and international speakers give lectures on the current state of prostate cancer diagnostics and therapy.

Documentation of all patient, treatment and follow-up data:

In the WPZ, the unique organ, tumor and dose parameters are recorded prospectively and consecutively pre-, intra- and postoperatively. Secondly, in addition to the usual documentation of PSA values and any imaging examinations, the 3-monthly monitoring of all relevant parameters on quality of life, micturition situation and sexual function is carried out over an initial period of at least 3 years using international and validated patient questionnaires.
The data records collected are anonymized and recorded in a prostate cancer database developed and programmed specifically for the WPZ. This is now one of the largest databases of its kind in the world.

As an expert radiation protection officer for the medical field, the radiation therapist is responsible for the implementation and treatment quality of the therapy in accordance with the Radiation Protection Ordinance (StrSchV). The final responsibility for proper education is also incumbent on the expert radiation therapist in accordance with the StrSchV.

It goes without saying that the equipment must be up-to-date and meet the requirements of the MPG (Medical Devices Act) as well as the specifications of the approval notice, the StrSchV (Radiation Protection Ordinance) and the RöV (X-ray Ordinance).
The legal framework is defined by the Radiation Protection Ordinance (StrSchV), the X-Ray Ordinance (RöV) and the handling permit of the respective supervisory authority.

Annual Certification:

Everyone talks about quality control - the physicians of the Prostate Center have now proven it. After successful introduction and implementation of a quality management system, they received ISO certification according to DIN EN ISO 9001 on September 27, 2009, which has been updated and re-certified annually since then.
