The association of prostate cancer specialists from the USA and Europe to form the "International Prostate Cancer Group" aims to optimize the quality of prostate cancer treatment through scientific collaboration, information exchange and patient counseling. In June 2007, the heads of the West German Prostate Center and the New York Prostate Cancer Center founded the international group.
The cooperation focuses on the coordination and implementation of joint research projects in the field of diagnosis and therapy of prostate cancer, the consultation of patients and the training of physicians.
With the addition of Guy's & St. Thomas Hospital in London and the Urological University Hospital Basel in 2008, four of the most internationally active specialist institutions for prostate diseases have now joined forces in the IPG to form a research network.
The IPG uses an international network to conduct transnational scientific studies and to jointly discuss current research results. The goal of the International Prostate Cancer Group is to translate new medical findings into practice in a timely manner.
Today, a variety of effective and proven therapeutic options are opening up for the treatment of prostate cancer. New and innovative therapies are constantly being carefully reviewed and critically compared with existing standard therapies.
Patients with prostate cancer from Germany and abroad have the opportunity to benefit from the medical knowledge of the experts and to obtain a competent and independent second opinion.
